Hello Readers. It is December and that means it's time for Dressember. Dressember is a non-profit organization that works to stop human trafficking and forced labor in the U.S. and all around the world. This is a global issue so there is a need everywhere. They work with partner organizations to prevent and intervene as well as rescue victims from these situations. There is also a focus on counseling, medical care and rehabilitation. $15 can pay for a counseling session, $25 can provide a food relief package, $40 can pay school fees and supplies so a rescued child can go back to school. Please go to Dressember.org to learn more about how you can help.
Basic black is always stylish but some trends are not as timeless as others. I liked the shape of this dress but it was a bit long. I did not like these cold shoulder sleeves. They were huge for a while and now I think we are all over it. I don't want my arms open like this. I cant just sew the openings together, that would make the sleeves too tight. It's OK, I had an idea.
How can I fix these sleeves?
I started by removing the sleeves. I wanted to keep the shape of the shoulder seam intact. I wanted to use this sleeve as a pattern, I could just tear it up. I would be able to rely on it as a pattern.
Here are the sleeves that I removed. The shape of the shoulder seam is curved and I needed that curve. I used the shape of the cut to re-cut the sleeves. I cut new shoulder seams below the cold-shoulder opening. This will make the sleeves more of 3/4 length sleeve. I would like that a lot more than the open sleeves.
The next step was to sew the sleeve back in.
I Put the sleeve and the dress together with the right sides facing each other and sewed all the way around the new shoulder seam.
Here is a close up look at one of my new sleeves.
I took off a few inches of length and gave the dress a new hem because the dress was too long on me.
I really like the dress more now. It is very simple and classic so I can wear it anywhere. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
***Year End Update***- This is so simple and classic now, I am going to wear this forever.
