Linen Pants to Shorts

Dear Reader. I have been waiting to turn these striped pants into shorts since winter. Sometimes I find a piece of clothing at a thrift store or clothes swap and save it for the season it was meant for.

Before and after.

I loved the blue and white colors of the pants. The stripes were fun but.... do they look like a window awning??? I thought if they were cut into shorts, they would look less like an awning and more like simple striped shorts.

I cut the pants into shorts. I just wanted to get the excess pant legs out of the way.

I made sure to cut them longer than I would want the shorts to be in the end. I could shorten them more later.

I sewed new side seams and made the shorts more narrow. I realized that the new side seams were going to ruin the pockets.

These pockets were going to sacrificed. It is sad but true. I turned the shorts inside out and cut the pocket out of the pants. I did not cut the seams, just the pocket itself.

When I had the fit I wanted, I made a new hem. I turned the edge under twice and ironed it to make sure it would be nice and neat when I sewed.

These shorts turned out great and the linen fabric will be great for summer. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

Shorts

Hello Readers. It is summer and hotter than the devils backside. Let's make some shorts. Let's make some fun shorts from these wild colorful pants.

Before and after.

I used chalk and marked where I wanted the hem of the shorts to be.

I cut the shorts about an inch under the mark I made. I need the extra fabric to fold under and sew.

I used my sewing machine to make the new hem. I turned the cut edge under twice and stitched it down.

My shorts ready to wear. I liked this wild fabric but I like it more when there is less of it.

I also made these brown shorts and used all the same steps. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
***Year End Update***- It gets super hot and humid where I live and shorts are required. I love both of these.

Linen Pants to Shorts

Hello Readers. I have had these linen pants for a long time and they have been waiting to be refashioned for a long time. I already had a pair of beige linen pants. I did not need 2 pairs. Let's make something else.

Warm weather is coming. Let's make shorts.

These pants were made of very nice linen. I liked the wide legs but these were really wide and long on me. And they had something I hate.

There was a horrible nylon lining. Nylon makes me itchy and it is hot in warm weather. The linen fabric is great in heat but if you add a nylon layer, it ruins it for me. A lining can make the pants last longer and drape nicely when they are worn but it isn't worth it for me. I started cutting the nylon layer out.

I literally just cut it out. It was connected along the waistband and I cut as close to the waistband as I could without cutting the linen. If I get any stray threads when I wash these pants I can trim them. It will be inside the pants no one will know. (Shh, don't tell.)

Here is the entire lining. Good riddance nylon. I never liked you anyway!

I cut the pant legs off. I wanted to save those legs for another project. Come back tomorrow to see the pant legs refashion.

I turned the hem under twice and stitched it down with a straight stitch. Easy as pie!

Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
