A 2-Tone Top

 Hello Readers. This week I have been putting things together to make 2 tone clothes. This shirt was a quick project. I wanted to see if I could put 2 stretchy knits together and make smooth seams.

These 2 shirts were plain and I didn't mind cutting them up.

 

I started cutting the shirts into 4 pieces. 

 

I wanted to put my new shirt together like this. I double checked each piece to make sure they were all the same height and width. The gray piece on the lower right was a little wider than it should be, I trimmed it so it would fit with the other pieces. 

I clipped each top piece together so I wouldn't sew them together wrong. 

I sewed the top 2 pieces together and then the bottom 2 pieces. Next I sewed the top to the bottom. 

I liked this color combo a lot and it was soft and comfortable. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

Refashioning Pajamas for Daytime

 Hello Readers. What can you do with a flannel pajamas shirt besides wearing them as pajamas? I loved the plaid flannel. It was soft and cozy but it was pajamas, I couldn't wear pajamas out in the world. I was inspired to put 2 different items together in big block pieces. Read on and I will show you what I mean.

The flannel shirt had red piping along the edges. It was clearly a pajama shirt, I couldn't pretend otherwise. I loved the flannel and the sleeves did not look like pajamas to me.

 

This red shirt was on clearance for $1. I am a serious cheapskate but even I can afford a dollar.

 

 The plaid shirt got cut into 3 pieces. This will make more sense when I put it all back together but this was my first step. 

 

I also cut the red shirt into 3 pieces. 

 

I wanted to put the middle of the red shirt together with the 2 plaid side pieces. That way the red piping and collar would be replaced by the red shirt. I thought it wouldn't look like pajamas anymore. I would sew the cut pieces together with the right sides facing each other. This will be easy to do because it is just 2 straight seams.

I used my serger to sew this but you could also use a sewing machine to do it. The flannel doesn't have any stretch so it would be easy to stitch with a straight stitch (To connect the seam.) and/or a zigzag stitch (To keep the seam neat inside the shirt.).

My new shirt is done. I knew how big I had to make the shirt to fit me well. You can measure yourself before cutting the pieces to make sure you make your shirt the size you want. The bigger you make the shirt, the looser and baggier the shirt will be.A loose over-sized fit would look great too.

 

I really liked the plaid sides with the solid red center in this shirt. 

I thought I could put the other pieces together and I was right. The red piping really makes this look like pajamas to me. I can wear this as pajamas. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

My son and I were matching in red and black and he thought we should take a photo together. Of course, I agreed.

Free Long Sleeve Tee

 Hello Readers. How are you doing out there? It is really cold, I am worried about all of you. Are you OK? I am layering up to stay warm where I live. Let's look at one of these layers. 

 

This refashion started with this red shirt that my hubby did not want anymore. It had a hole in the sleeve. (Sourced from husband for free.)

 

This red shirt was a nice heavy weight and would be warm and snuggly. It is too big and unflattering. I also wasn't a huge fan of the buttons and collar. 

 

I cut the body from the red shirt. I made it the size I wanted and took away the rest, for now. We'll come back to it later.

 

I also wanted to use up some t-shirts I had sitting around. I used the shoulders from this gray shirt. (Sourced from stash for free.)

 

And I used the sleeves from this black shirt. (Sourced from the stash, also free.)

 

I put all the pieces together like a puzzle. I used more of the red shirt to get the red arm pieces. I did some pinning and then sewed everything all together.

 

The went together easily and I liked the different colored pieces all put together.

 

As you can see the snow just doesn't want to stop. This shirt is big enough to wear over a shirt for warmth. I will be adding layer on layer to go out until it warms up.

 

Yes, I went out of the house and got some thread. I do all my swaps to source free clothes but thread doesn't come along free. I just buy it when I need it because I can't sew without it. It was nice to see the thread so well stocked. I wanted all the colors.

***Chickie's Year End Review-I like this shirt and it still gets worn at work often. My aunt told me I looked like a super hero in it. (haha) I like that too.
