The Blue Ribbon Tank

Hello Readers. I hope you are doing well and enjoying the last days of warm summer weather. At least that's the weather where I live. It is still hot but I know fall is coming. In honor of the last hot days and nights of summer I made this tank top style shirt with wide ribbon at the neckline out of a men's golf shirt.

(I should make it clear this is not a shirt that won a blue ribbon at the county fair. It is a blue shirt with ribbon. It is county fair time where I live and I don't want you to think I am claiming to have won a prize.)

I started by cutting off the arms and opening the shoulders completely. I plan to use the bottom hem as the top of the shirt. It will be flipped upside down when I am done.

I am going to used this multi-colored ribbon at the neckline. I have had this ribbon for ages and I thought it went with the blue shirt really well. And if it's sitting in a drawer somewhere, I might as well use it right? I folded the end under twice and stitched it down because it will fray and unravel a lot when it's washed.

Here is a picture of the beginning. Everything is pinned in place and I am trying to get an idea of how much to take in from the sides. the ribbon is just pinned in place and i was trying to see how I wanted to arrange it. It was fun and you can really customize the size and shape to suit you.

Here is a view of the back as it was under construction. It is getting closer and closer to where I want it to be. You can see in the picture on the right the bottom edge is curling up. I gave it a quick hem so it would look more finished.

It was going to be date night but that plan fell apart at the last minute. Oh, well. What are you going to do? We put the baby in the stroller and went for a walk. It was still nice.

Thanks for reading, here's hoping your next date is awesome.
Now go make something fun for yourself.

A nice change from the usual necklines for summer! Could I ask if you made your dress model or bought it ready-made? I would so love to make one but I have a bit of a phobia about doing a duct tape one. Pretty sure I couldn't handle it. I'm trying to think of other ways to make one.

Hi Jenny_o. Thanks for the comment. I was given that dress form. It is not adjustable but it is close to my size, or it was close to my size before the baby. I added some padding to make it more like me.

Thank you for the reply. I'm thinking now about making one by using an old t-shirt that fits well to draw and sew a form from non-stretchy material, and stuffing it, making sure it conforms to my measurements. We'll see! Another project :)
