Blue Sparkle Dress

Hello Readers. It is time for the annual Dressember Fundraiser. What Is Dressember? They are an organization that works to fight human trafficking and forced labor in the U.S and all around the world.   Since 2013, Dressember advocates have raised over $20 million to support International Justice Mission (IJM) and its partners. I will be wearing and refashioning dresses all month in honor of this mission. You can learn more at Dressember.org

I found this sparkly blue dress at a clothes swap. It was so pretty and fun. I liked it but couldn't try it on. The dress needed some reshaping to make it work.

Before and after.

This dress was a little big but it worked out really well because there was enough fabric to make something new. It had a lot of stretch to it, that gave me more possibilities. The front of the dress had these slits that went up really high and left the front a little more open that I wanted.

I folded the dress in half and cut out the front of the dress so that I could remove the slits. That left me a solid back piece to use for my new dress.

I pinned the dress on my dress form. I wanted a stretchy tube dress. I could wear it alone but it could also be a maxi skirt. I was really liking the idea of a sequin maxi skirt but anything that can do double duty is great.

I sewed the back seam together with my serger. I thought it would be difficult to sew the sequin fabric but it was no problem.

My dress is very fitted and straight but the stretch let's me wear it different ways.

This dress was so fun and sparkly. But I was freezing so I added a sweater.

But I really love it as a skirt with a sweater. This would be much warmer.

I was able to save the front bodice of the dress. I used a scrap piece to make a new back piece for this to make a top.

I liked the new top over the skirt and it fit much better now than it did originally. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
