A 2-Tone Top

Hello Readers. This week I have been putting things together to make 2 tone clothes. This shirt was a quick project. I wanted to see if I could put 2 stretchy knits together and make smooth seams.

Before and after.

These 2 shirts were plain and I didn't mind cutting them up.

I started cutting the shirts into 4 pieces.

I wanted to put my new shirt together like this. I double checked each piece to make sure they were all the same height and width. The gray piece on the lower right was a little wider than it should be, I trimmed it so it would fit with the other pieces.

I clipped each top piece together so I wouldn't sew them together wrong.

I sewed the top 2 pieces together and then the bottom 2 pieces. Next I sewed the top to the bottom.

I liked this color combo a lot and it was soft and comfortable. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

***Year End Update***- This was a fun exercise top. I really like this one.

Making Work-out Tanks

Hello Readers. It is honestly cold and rainy today but I know summer is coming. Its going to be hot and i am going to want to go sleeveless. I decided to take these 2 men's t-shirts and make 2 tanks.

Before and after.

I had a big t-shirt.

Actually, I had 2 of them.

I am using the Luna pattern from Helen's Closet Patterns. (Not an ad.) It is free to download. I love free! It is a loose tank top. Perfect for summer work outs. Or moderate walks. Or watching TV. Whatever you are in to.

I cut out my fabric pieces. I am going to make 2 of these tanks. The men's shirts I had are a perfect material.

I needed to put them together.

I used my serger to connect the shoulders and the sides of the shirts.

I liked how that stitching looked so I used the serger on all the edges. I liked the visible stitching.

These light flowy tank tops will be great in the heat of summer. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

***Year End Update- I haven't worked out in a while but it isn't because of these shirts. The shirts were great.

Dress Up a Free T-shirt

Hello Readers. I got a freebie t-shirt recently and wanted to dress it up. Free t-shirt just seem to happen, you can't get away from them. Let's have some fun with this one.

Before and after.

This was a simple t-shirt. It was kind of boxy and shapeless like they all are and it had a logo on the back too. That's OK, I have a plan for this.

Life Happens! That is for sure. The first step in this project was to mix up some acrylic paint. I wanted to try and match this late color.

I mixed up a color close to the right shade and I started painting over the white and green writing.

Here is a look at the shirt when I was done painting over the lettering. I let it dry over night when I was done painting. The acrylic paint will last forever, it never washes out. It's not perfect but it will work great.

When the shirt was dry I used iron on tape to hold the lace on the shirt. You could use pins but I was afraid it would shift around. I cut the lace off a cropped shirt I found at a clothes swap. The shirt was old and tired looking but the lace was still very pretty, so I saved the good part.

After ironing I was ready to sew the lace down across the top and the sides.

Actual stitching!

I used a zigzag stitch on the sides to really secure the edges.

I cut the neck binding off and I also cut the sleeves at an angle so they would have a fluttery look.

I cut the logo off the back when I cut the neckband off.

The shirt is casual and fun and more feminine with the lace. It's easy to wear and no ironing needed ever! I love T-shirts. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.*Year End Note From Chickie- I love this shirt for work. I can't really ruin because it's brown.

Making a Raglan Shirt-Chelsea Pattern

Hello Readers. I used the Chelsea pattern from FabricStore.com recently to make a rash guard for swimming and avoiding the sun. It worked so well, I used it again for a fun Captain Marvel shirt. It is a great simple and FREE pattern. Let me show you what I made.

Before and after.

Someone nice passed this shirt down to me. It is a men's shirt and I loved the graphic. Captain Marvel as a Funko Pop bobble head! My youngest thought it looked like me so I went with it and made the shirt my own.
(And say hello to Gordon. He is a 3 year old Dachshund mix that my daughter got from a local rescue. He is very cute, has anxiety issues and loves snacks. He visits me when he needs dog sitting.)

I found the Chelsea pattern online. You can download it and print it for free from FabricStore.com. It is a simple raglan sleeve top. I found the sizing very accurate for me.

I cut out the sleeves from the pattern as they directed. For the body of the shirt I did something else. I used the pattern to cut the front and back at the same time. I didn't want to cut 2 pieces and sew them together because they were already together at the shoulders I left the binding around the neck hole in place to make this project even easier.
(Gordon wanted to nap on the shirt pieces and I said no. Sad doggie face.)

I got the blue sleeves from this knit sweat shirt dress. I cut the sleeves from the bottom of the dress so the hem of the dress would be the binding on the end of my sleeves. That saved a lot of time too.

I connected the pieces using my serger. This shirt went together in no time.

This is actually my second Captain Marvel shirt. I made one into a tank top a while back and now I have a second shirt for cooler weather. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
*Year End Note From Chickie- I wore this shirt a lot. It was great for me. It gets worn often.
