Back to Black

Hello Readers. I don't remember where or when I scavenged this black dress. I loved the eyelet lace at the top. I love eyelet lace in any form. You can't go wrong with basic black but there was something wrong with this dress.

Before and after.

The dress had a weird shape. Maybe the lace at the hem shrunk? I'm not sure but I didn't like how it got smaller at the bottom of the dress. It just did not fit me well.

I had a plan to make this dress into a loose summer tank top. I thought that would fit better than the dress. And I had a plan to save every inch of that lace.

I unpicked all the stitches around the lace at the chest of the dress. It wasn't difficult but there were little threads everywhere by the time I was done.

I cut the middle of the dress away and I had a good shirt length that I needed to reattach to the lace.

I liked my new shirt a lot. It was light and loose. The lace was the best part of the whole thing and I was able to keep all of it. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

***Year End Update- The light cotton and the loose fit was great in summer. I loved this top.

Travel Refashions #2

Hello Readers. I am going on a trip to England and I decided to coordinate my travel wardrobe. I am packing all new refashion projects and I will be posting about my journey and my outfit of the day along the way. This post is about a tight dress that became a fun tank top.

Before and after.

This dress is too tight but I loved the design. The bright floral design with the white seemed perfect for summer time. But I couldn't zip it. I haven't zipped it in a long time.

I cut the top of the dress off. I unpicked the pleats and used the skirt to make my new tank top.

I used the same Luna tank pattern that i used a  a few weeks ago. I extended the length this time to make a tank I could tuck in.

I used bias tape to finish the neck and arm holes.

Bias tape close up!
I actually made 2 of these tanks tops. This blue dress had a couple bleach spots on it so I cut it up too.

I made them together because you can't have too many tank tops for summer.

I used a different bias tape for this blue tank top. These retro flowers were so pretty.
I think these will be great shirts on their own but also great to layer with other things. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.

***Follow up review***
My trip was so much fun.-These 2 tanks were so handy. They were great alone when it was warm and they were a good layer when it was cooler.

***Year End Update- I didn't know how much I needed these summer tops until I made them. I wore them all summer.

Blue Denim Shirts

Hello Readers. I decided to spend the rest of the month on blue refashion and upcycle projects. 2022 has been rough all around so I am just going to be blue this month. I had a couple of denim dresses that were handed down to me from my daughter. The thing is, I had a denim dress. I really needed a denim shirt. I love patterned and brightly colored clothes and a denim shirt goes with all the wild clothes I found at swaps and thrift stores.

Before and after.

This dress wasn't very flattering on me and I didn't mind turning it into something else. Let's get sewing.

I cut it into a shirt that was long enough to tuck in. But then I changed my mind and...

I cut it into a shorter cropped length. It had buttons and I thought it would be great open or closed. #versatility

I decided to add a little decorative stitch at the hem just for fun.

My sewing machine was made in 1943 and it came with these disks that you add onto the machine. The designs are shown on the disc.

I put the disc on the machine and screwed a solver cover on it.

It looked like this while it was stitching away.

I liked this shirt and all its options. It could be a buttoned up shirt or an open little jacket.

I also had this second dress. It was a little darker in color and the buttons in the front of it were fake.

This dress got a big cut and a simple new hem. I needed a basic denim shirt that could match any wild pattern I wanted to wear.

I knew I wanted this shirt to go with these shorts.

I knew I wanted to tuck it in.

And I was ready to to go with my wild patterned shorts. Thanks for reading along, now go make something fun for yourself.
*Year End Note From Chickie- I didn't realize how much I needed denim shirts until I made these and wore them with everything! They were both great for me.
